- Choosing the right ‘fit’ for your windows
When designing your roman blind, choosing the right fit is key to being perfect.
There are two different types of ‘fits’ for roman blinds. Find your fit before measuring your window.
- Face fit on a window frame
- Face fit above your window frame
- Face fit square set window
The blind is attached to the front of the window frame
Pros
Pros
- Your blind will perfectly cover your window
Cons
- When your blind is in the ‘up’ position, the stack will cover 250-300mm of your window
- Your blind will sit 40mm out from your window
- Does not suit architraves less than 60mm wide
The blind is attached to the wall, about 150mm – 200mm above your frame
Pro’s
Pro’s
- When your blind is in the ‘up’ position, the stack will cover only a small amount of your window
- Makes your room feel bigger
- If your room has different window heights, you can position all your roman blinds at the same height for an even look.
Con’s
- You may need to install directly into plaster, but your window should have studs either side

- Measure your window
Tips:
- Always measure in MM
- Double check all of your measurements
- Write “width” or “drop” next to your measurements to avoid confusion
- Always put width first
- Don’t make any adjustments to your measurements unless instructed to here or by our team members
- It’s better to be 1mm too short than 1mm too long

Measure Your Width
- Measure the exact width of your frame across the top of your window
- Add 50mm each side of the window frame, for a total of 100mm.
- This is your width
Measure Your Drop
Measure from the top of your window frame to where you would like the blind to finish
- We recommend having the blind finish 50mm – 100mm below your window
- If you have multiple roman blinds in the same room, you may want them all to drop to the same place
Watch out for any obstructions that would stop your blinds from hanging where you would like. Think furniture or a protruding window sill.
